We are so proud!

We are so proud! Congratulations to our very own Langley Xtreme ’03 team who are the 2019 U16B Softball BC Provincial Champions…

U16B BC Provincial games were hosted by the Delta Fastpitch Association (DFA) on July 12 – 14th, 2019 weekend, which were held at North Delta Community and Brandrith Parks. The Langley Xtreme 03 had a Golden Weekend, whereby sixteen of the top teams from all around BC competed for the coveted Provincial title. After a fierce weekend battle on the field, Langley Xtreme 03 came out on top with the final victory, along with the gold medal championship title.

Battling with a number of injuries throughout the 2019 season, the Xtreme 03 girls pushed through their physical pain and the exhaustive weekend heat to play nine games through a series of round robin, semi-final, and final games. As the underdogs going into Provincial games, Xtreme defeated the Coquitlam Classics, CVI Rage, Kelowna Heat, and Ridge Meadow Rage in the round-robin. This placed Xtreme 03 in the Gold Pool which was a double knockout format.

The playoffs began on Saturday, July 13th, where Xtreme 03 faced Abbotsford Outlaws 03, the Xtreme 03 team was down 3-0 at the top of the sixth but battled back and earned 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead of 4-3 going into the seventh inning and shut down the outlaws for Xtreme 03’s first playoff win. The second playoff game was on Sunday, June 14th, the Langley Xtreme 03 took home a 4-3 victory over Langford Lightening. The third playoff games was against the top seed, Prince George Thunderbirds 03, where the Xtreme team lost their first game in these provincials with a mercy loss of 10-0. The fourth playoff game was against the Delta Invaders 03 where the Xtreme team was down 4-3 until the bottom of the seventh inning, the Xtreme team battled back and won the game 5-4.

This put the Langley Xtreme 03 team back into the Gold/Silver game for these 2019 Provincials against the top seed Prince George Thunderbirds 03. The Langley Xtreme 03 did not let their 10-0 loss against this team a mere couple of hours ago succumb them to defeat. The Xtreme rallied with solid hitting, key defensive plays, and great pitching. The Thunderbirds took an early lead of 2-0 in the second inning, the Xtreme 03 answered back with taking the lead of 3-2 in the third inning. The Langley Xtreme 03 team then added on to their lead with another 2 runs with a score of 5-2 and then shutdown the Thunderbirds and won a Provincial Gold Medal

Head Coach Charles Dickens said “I’m in awe of these young women. I’ve seen them fight through injuries, pain and adversity, yet they’ve continued to persevere. The life lesson they will take away from this year is knowing the payoff from determination, tenacity and focus….a life lesson that will serve them well”. Dickens continued saying “The ten athletes of this team demonstrated a tremendous amount of teamwork, spirit, and dedication, which is the foundation of any successful team. As these young women become adults, they will carry with them the work ethic they have demonstrated on the field this year.”

The games were both quite exciting and dramatic, with many of them coming down to bottom of the 7th inning in a deficit position, yet Xtreme03 having enough drive to mustering up runs to win in the final moments of the game. “Going into these Provincial games, we were down to only 10 players and we chose not to use any pickups players…we wanted to go with the original girls that had gotten us this far” said Coach Murray Sing. “Our girls really played for each other and they had each other’s backs all tournament long” explained Sing.

The final standings of the 2019 U16B Provincial games were Langley Xtreme 03 winning the gold medal, Prince George Thunderbirds with the silver; and Delta Invaders with the bronze medal.

Dickens also wanted to thank the coaches within the softball community that have reached out with their congratulatory messages saying, “It’s truly an honour to be part of this softball BC community where sportsmanship within our community has been so apparent during these Provincial games”.
